Softball Recap: Moffat County Bulldogs vs. Cedaredge Bruins
Moffat County extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 3-10. They came up short against the Cedaredge Bruins, falling 23-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-0 on Saturday.
Vanessa Herrara was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
As for Cedaredge, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Cedaredge's side, Tia Homedew made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Homedew has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in August.
In other batting news, Cedaredge got a massive performance out of Kiera Stroh, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. What's more, Stroh posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Jewel Laliberte, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and three doubles.
Moffat County and Cedaredge will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Bulldogs see the field they'll take on Middle Park at 4:00 p.m. on October 7. As for Cedaredge, their break will end when they face Rifle at 2:00 p.m. on October 10.
