Baseball Recap: Coastal HomeSchool Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Robert Toombs Christian Academy, Coastal HomeSchool was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the St. Andrew's Lions by a score of 9-4. The Hurricanes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lions, too.

Burke Sullivan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Coastal HomeSchool is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Jace Poppell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. He has become a key player for Coastal HomeSchool: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 6-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was J.W. Castongia, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Poppell wasn't the only one making solid contact: Coastal HomeSchool kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The Hurricanes are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Coastal HomeSchool's victory bumped their record up to 12-13. As for St. Andrew's, they dropped their record down to 1-13 with the loss, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Coastal HomeSchool will be playing in front of their home fans against Lowcountry Wildcats Athletics at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. Andrew's, they will venture away from home to square off against Hardeeville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
