Girard extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 10-17. They came up short against the Champion Golden Flashes, falling 17-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Indians have suffered against the Golden Flashes since March 31, 2016.
Girard saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaiden Clare, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
As for Champion, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Champion's side, Carter Chapin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chapin has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Champion: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Champion got a massive performance out of Marky Nolan, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Nolan has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Vesey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Coming up, Girard will look to defend their home field on Friday against Crestwood at 5:00 p.m. As for Champion, they will venture away from home to square off against Maplewood at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
