Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Weed

Weed waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 59-44 win over the Hoopa Valley Warriors. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while the Warriors are ranked 351st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Weed's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alayja Oliver, who went 6 of 15 en route to 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Oliver has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Dawson, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 12 points and seven rebounds.

Weed's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Hoopa Valley, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Weed will take on Orland in a tournament on Thursday. As for Hoopa Valley, they will square off against South Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
