Alabama high school football rankings: No. 1 Thompson to face No. 5 Oak Mountain

Conner Harrell, J.B. Mitchell and defense propel Warriors to big shutout win.

Thompson moved back to the No. 1 spot this week in the MaxPreps Alabama Top 25 high school football computer rankings and now gets a big test. The Warriors travel to Birmingham Friday to face No. 5 Oak Mountain, which improved to 6-1 last week with a 42-21 win over Tuscaloosa County.

Thompson (8-0) jumped over previous No. 1 Hoover from No. 2 following a 48-0 victory over Gadsden City as Conner Harrell threw for 280 yards and five touchdowns, three that went to J.B. Mitchell (11 catches, 160 yards). The Warriors have allowed nine points in their last three games combined.

Oak Mountain (6-1) has scored 90 points in two games since a humbling 42-7 loss to Hoover. In the win over Tuscaloosa County, junior quarterback Evan Smith run for 226 yards and four touchdowns and senior running back Judah Tait added 115 yards rushing.

Florence (No. 23) and Gardendale (No. 24) entered the rankings this week, with Florence moving up a whopping 26 spots following a following a 20-13 win over previous No. 25 Sparkman.
