Basketball Recap: Sylmar Takes a Loss

If Sylmar was feeling good fresh off their 84-36 takedown of Panorama last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sylmar Spartans fell to the Van Nuys Wolves 62-58. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Sylmar still got an impressive performance from Yaneli Zuniga-Hernandez, who posted 27 points. That was a full 46.6% of Sylmar's points, marking the fourth time in a row Zuniga-Hernandez has scored more than a third of the team's points. Isabella Gonzalez was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Karen Grewal had an outrageously good game for Van Nuys as she dropped a double-double with 34 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenya Perryman, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 20 rebounds.

Sylmar's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Van Nuys, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Sylmar wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 63-60 defeat against Chatsworth on the 12th. As for Van Nuys, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-5 win against Canoga Park on the 12th.
