Baseball Recap: Sand Creek Takes a Loss

Sand Creek had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 8-14 to make it four. They fell just short of the Napoleon Pirates by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Aggies have suffered since April 30, 2025.

Andon Sutherland put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Ivan Wilkinson was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

As for Napoleon, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games.

On Napoleon's side, Brady McLain was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave McLain a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Straub, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Sand Creek and Napoleon could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Aggies (ranked 406th) will meet Summerfield (ranked 187th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Napoleon will take on Lumen Christi Catholic at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (343 vs. 29).
