Having just played yesterday, the Laton Mustangs will get right back to it and host the Tranquillity Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on January 17th. Laton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Laton posted their biggest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Alpaugh with a sharp 39-17 win. The victory was just what Laton needed coming off of a 51-12 defeat in their prior matchup.
Valerie Silva was the offensive standout of the contest as she almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Jade Perez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Tranquillity, who are still winless after their 15th game. They were beaten by Coalinga 70-22 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Tranquillity can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1335th, while Coalinga is ranked 415th).
Laton's win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-11. As for Tranquillity, they bumped their record down to 0-15 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
Laton won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, slipping by Tranquillity 26-25. Does Laton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tranquillity turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
