Baseball Recap: Denmark Takes a Loss

Denmark and Brookwood squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Denmark had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Broncos by a score of 7-6. That's two games in a row now that Denmark has lost by just one run.

Denmark got a good showing from Easton Holmes, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Holmes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kurtis Maher and Jason Williams did some serious damage despite the final result: Maher went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Williams went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Geno Goralski, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Denmark and nudges their season record down to 19-14. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Brookwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 19 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-10 record this season.

As of now, neither Denmark nor Brookwood have any future games scheduled.
