Basketball Recap: Janiya Sawyer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Salesian College Preparatory over Caruthers

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Salesian College Preparatory couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 77-63 bruising from the Caruthers Blue Raiders on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (61), the Pride still had to take the loss.

Salesian College Preparatory's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janiya Sawyer, who posted 19 points and six rebounds. The matchup was Sawyer's third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Jamia Sawyer, who earned 11 points and three steals.

The loss snapped Salesian College Preparatory's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 23-11 record. As for Caruthers, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-6 record this season.

Salesian College Preparatory does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Caruthers, they will host Rancho Bernardo at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Rancho Bernardo sitting on four straight victories and Caruthers on three.
