Baseball Recap: Carmel Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Carmel's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roncalli Royals on Friday. The Greyhounds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Royals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Cal Carmichael was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Carmel has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Roncalli, their record is now 17-5.

Coming up, Carmel will challenge Mt. Vernon at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Marauders have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Roncalli, they will take on Fairmont at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Firebirds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.72 runs per game on average), something the Royals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
