Preview: Tamaqua Blue Raiders vs. Pottsville Crimson Tide
The Tamaqua Blue Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the Pottsville Crimson Tide at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Tamaqua focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday.
Tamaqua has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 43-35 to Blue Mountain.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Lorelei Plasha, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Lauren Ligenza was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Pottsville's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Tuesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 53-29 walloping at the hands of Blue Mountain. While losing is never fun, Pottsville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 507th, while Blue Mountain is ranked 151st).
Tamaqua's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3. As for Pottsville, they bumped their record down to 1-5 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Tamaqua didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Pottsville in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 50-44 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tamaqua since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
