Madison extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-10. They came up short against the Maranacook Black Bears, falling 22-11. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Black Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-2 back in April.
Griffin Dickey was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Landon Dunham, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
As for Maranacook, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games.
On Maranacook's side, Cam Jones was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Will Watson was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Caldre Glowa was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one double.
Coincidentally, Madison and Maranacook will both be playing Dirigo the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will head out to face the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Black Bears will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on June 1.
