Basketball Game Preview: Santa Ana Valley Falcons vs. El Modena Vanguards

Santa Ana Valley hasn't had much luck against El Modena recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Santa Ana Valley Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the El Modena Vanguards at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Santa Ana Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past St. Lucy's 53-31 on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, El Modena had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against the Lobos by a score of 37-26. The 37-point effort marked the Vanguards' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

El Modena pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 46.4 points. As for Santa Ana Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 3-9.

Santa Ana Valley ended up a good deal behind El Modena in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, losing 49-35. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of El Modena's Mackenzie Brehm, who almost dropped a triple-double on 21 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals.
