Basketball Game Preview: Oak Hills Bulldogs vs. Burroughs Burros

Oak Hills and Burroughs are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Oak Hills Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Burroughs Burros at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Burroughs likes a good challenge.

Last Thursday, Oak Hills took their game with ease, bagging a 63-28 victory over Sultana. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while the Sultans are ranked 877th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Burroughs slipped by Hesperia 61-60 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Burros.

Oak Hills better keep an eye on Jhavmine Ave. She was instrumental in Burroughs' win, going 9 for 17 on her way to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ave has scored at least a third of Burroughs' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Baird, who posted 20 points and three steals.

Burroughs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive matchups.

Burroughs is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Oak Hills, their record is now 7-10.

Oak Hills came up short against Burroughs in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 52-44. Can Oak Hills avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
