Football Recap: Kirtland Central Takes a Loss

Kirtland Central extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 1-7. They took a blow against the Taos Tigers, falling 40-0. The Broncos were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Chance Aspaas threw for 81 yards on six of 23 attempts. Kayben Dowdy was his top target, picking up 31 receiving yards.

As for Taos, they pushed their record up to 4-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. That looming 40-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Evan Salazar was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 207 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 42 yards and one TD. He is becoming a predictor of Taos' success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). David Vargas was Salazar's top target, picking up 78 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Kirtland Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 35-8 victory against Aztec on the 24th. As for Taos, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-6 win against Moriarty on the 24th.
