Softball Recap: Normandy Takes a Loss

Normandy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-8. They came up short against the Hazelwood East Spartans, falling 15-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in September.

Normandy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace M, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and two runs. M is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least four every time she's taken the field this season. Kamori W was another, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases.

As for Hazelwood East, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7. Considering they have won three contests by more than 12 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Hazelwood East's side, Aja Wallace made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Wallace was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Hazelwood East got a massive performance out of Jamarre Thomas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Thomas continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Turner, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Normandy will head out to square off against University City at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Hazelwood East, they will venture away from home to challenge Riverview Gardens at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.29 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
