Softball Recap: Normandy Vikings vs. Hazelwood East Spartans

Normandy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-8. They came up short against the Hazelwood East Spartans, falling 15-2. Normandy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace M, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and two runs. M is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least four every time she's taken the field this season. Kamori W was another, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases.

As for Hazelwood East, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7. Considering they have won three contests by more than 12 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Hazelwood East's side, Aja Wallace made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Thomas continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Normandy will head out to square off against University City at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Hazelwood East, they will venture away from home to challenge Riverview Gardens at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.29 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
