Baseball Game Preview: Dover-Eyota Eagles vs. Chatfield Gophers

The Dover-Eyota Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Chatfield Gophers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Chatfield took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Dover-Eyota, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Dover-Eyota turned things around against Wabasha-Kellogg on Thursday. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 6-2.

Joel Skrukrud made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Dover-Eyota is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-8 otherwise. Skrukrud was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

Skrukrud wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen Ihrke, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Chatfield suffered their closest defeat since April 14, 2025 on Tuesday. They fell just short of St. Charles by a score of 6-4. The Gophers haven't had much luck with the Saints recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Dover-Eyota's record now sits at 8-10. As for Chatfield, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Dover-Eyota came out on top in a nail-biter against Chatfield in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
