Baseball Preview: Chagrin Falls Tigers vs. Crestwood Red Devils
The Chagrin Falls Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Crestwood Red Devils at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Chagrin Falls' victory against West Geauga wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wolverines 2-1. The victory was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Crestwood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past Kirtland 4-3.
Wyatt Januska made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Crestwood: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, Bobby Bradley was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Crestwood is undefeated when Bradley posts two or more runs, but 4-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Kalista, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Chagrin Falls' record now sits at 16-9. As for Crestwood, their record is now 8-11.
