Football Recap: Iola Comes Up Short

Iola extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-2. They took a blow against the Wellsville Eagles, falling 43-14. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-0.

As for Wellsville, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 21 points this season.

Payton Otwell had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 157 yards and five TDs while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Those 157 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Iola will square off against rival Santa Fe Trail on Friday. Meanwhile, Wellsville is set to take on their familiar foe Prairie View on Friday.
