Wayne dropped down to 12-8 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Freeman Falcons by a score of 3-2. If the Blue Devils were looking for revenge after losing 9-4 to the Falcons when the teams met back in October of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Mackenzie Nissen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Courtney Roeber was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
As for Freeman, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-10. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch.
On Freeman's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sydney Lenners gave up just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Freeman saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nevaeh Niles, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Taelyn Lang also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Wayne wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 5-0 victory against Cass on the 20th. As for Freeman, they have also already played their next game, a 5-4 win against Douglas County West on the 20th.
