Basketball Recap: Canyon Crest Academy Falls Short of Christian in the Playoffs

Canyon Crest Academy and Christian squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Canyon Crest Academy had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Christian Patriots and fell 74-26. While losing is never fun, the Ravens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1172nd, while the Patriots are ranked 205th).

Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leah Speers led the charge by putting up 30 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. The match was Speers' 15th in a row with at least 16 points. Maepon Johnson was another key player, earning 23 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Canyon Crest Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost 16 of their last 17 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-22 record this season. The win (which was Christian's 15th in a row) raised their record to 21-4.

Canyon Crest Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Christian, they will welcome Mission Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 15 games.
