Canton is 0-10 against Washington since May of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Little Giants will host the Panthers at 4:15 p.m.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Canton's offense. They lost 10-0 to Dunlap on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Little Giants' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Kash Van Houten was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one double.
Meanwhile, Washington made easy work of Bloomington on Saturday and carried off an 8-1 victory. Considering the Panthers have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Zane Skulte looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
At the plate, Carter Prina was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Cash Wisher, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Washington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Washington pushed their record up to 20-8 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Canton, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Canton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Canton suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Washington in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Little Giants avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
