Basketball Game Preview: Southwestern Academy Sun vs. Westridge Tigers

The Southwestern Academy Sun will take on the Westridge Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Westridge took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Southwestern Academy, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with nine defeats in a row, Southwestern Academy turned things around against New Covenant Academy on Monday. Everything went their way against the Huskies as they made off with a 37-14 win.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southwestern Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Valza Jusufi, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Jusufi has scored at least a third of Southwestern Academy's points. Marianne Okwuadi was another key player, putting up eight points and 18 rebounds.

Southwestern Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 32 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Westridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 54-22 loss at the hands of Rio Hondo Prep. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1071st, while the Kares are ranked 495th).

Westridge's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Southwestern Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.
