Basketball Recap: McConnellsburg Comes Up Short

If McConnellsburg was feeling good fresh off their 65-42 takedown of Forbes Road last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The McConnellsburg Spartans were beaten by the Williamsburg Blue Pirates 65-36 on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Blue Pirates are ranked 94th).

Williamsburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Levada Gorsuch, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds. Gorsuch's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Leeanna Royer was another key player, putting up 17 points in addition to seven steals and five assists.

The defeat snapped McConnellsburg's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-5 record. As for Williamsburg, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

McConnellsburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-43 victory against Mount Union on the 28th. As for Williamsburg, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-18 win against Northern Bedford County on the 28th.
