Baseball Recap: Markesan Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Markesan had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They didn't even let the New Lisbon Rockets on the board, marking their second-straight 10-0 shutout. Considering the Hornets have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Lucas Bruce made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Bruce was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since May 1st.

In other batting news, Benton VandeBerg and Logan Lemke did most of the damage at the plate: VandeBerg got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Lemke went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Lemke has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Keaton Jerome, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Markesan's victory bumped their record up to 18-8. As for New Lisbon, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

As of now, neither Markesan nor the Rockets have any future games scheduled.
