Basketball Recap: Christian Sets Scoring Season-High Against Point Loma

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Christian). They blew past the Point Loma Pointers 80-9 on Friday. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 22 points or more this season.

Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maepon Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten steals. Those 25 points gave Johnson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leah Speers, who posted 23 points along with eight steals and six assists.

Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive contests.

Point Loma lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Hannah Smith, who scored four points and eight rebounds. Smith has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played.

Christian is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Point Loma, they dropped their record down to 4-12 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-44 win against El Cajon Valley on the 18th. As for Point Loma, they will face off against Patrick Henry at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
