Basketball Recap: Johansen Comes Up Short

Johansen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Valley Hawks. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Johansen lost, don't look at Danna Singh. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points along with seven boards and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Singh a new career-high in blocks (two). Nariah Turner was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Johansen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Central Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bella Delatorre led the charge by dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Another player making a difference was Marion Dennison, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Johansen's record now sits at 6-13. As for Central Valley, they moved to 7-12 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak.

Johansen will face off against Livingston at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central Valley, they will take on Lathrop at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
