St. Rita and Lane Tech are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will take on the Champions at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lane Tech took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Rita, who comes in off a win.
St. Rita had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Homewood-Flossmoor on Tuesday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 13-1 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by seven runs or more this season.

Gregory Zaber tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
On the hitting side, St. Rita got a big performance out of Jayden Ibarra, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Vinny Stubitsch, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Meanwhile, Lane Tech unfortunately witnessed the end of their 26-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Whitney Young by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Champions have suffered since March 18th.
Alex Zeigler made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Paris Head, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
St. Rita is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lane Tech, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 15-1 and their overall record down to 27-5.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Rita has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Lane Tech struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Rita came out on top in a nail-biter against Lane Tech in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
