Football Recap: Santa Fe Indian Takes a Loss

Santa Fe Indian fell victim to Pojoaque Valley and their airtight defense on Friday. They were beaten by the Elks/Elkettes 52-0. The loss continues a trend for the Braves in their meetings with the Elks/Elkettes: they've now lost eight in a row.

Pojoaque Valley's receiving core played a big role in the win, headlined by Jonah Villegas and Jaden Leyba-Moya. Villegas rushed for 107 yards and three TDs while Leyba-Moya gained 143 total yards and three touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Leyba-Moya a new career-high in receiving yards (99).

Santa Fe Indian's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Pojoaque Valley, they pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Santa Fe Indian will face off against Tohatchi at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Braves will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Pojoaque Valley, they will square off against St. Michael's at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Horsemen's defense has only allowed 5.5 points per game this season, so the Elks/Elkettes' offense will have their work cut out for them.
