Baseball Recap: New Haven Gets the Win

New Haven won against Roseville on Wednesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Rockets beat the Merritt Academy Mustangs by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-2. The victory continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won four in a row.

Zach Hazley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Josh Nugent was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last 13 contests. Connor Abuan was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and three stolen bases.

New Haven's win bumped their record up to 18-7-1. As for Merritt Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Looking ahead, New Haven will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Warren Woods-Tower at 10:00 a.m. The Rockets are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Merritt Academy, they will square off against FAITH HomeSchool at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
