Basketball Recap: Hanalani Victorious

If Hawaiian Mission Academy wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Hanalani, they should've done a better job of containing Tamlyn Celestino. The Royals snuck past the Knights with a 37-33 victory on Wednesday for which the team can thank Celestino, who made all 7 shots she took to post 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Despite the loss, Hawaiian Mission Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kelis Tavares almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine steals. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for Tavares.

Hanalani's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Hawaiian Mission Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Hanalani will be playing in front of their home fans against Sacred Hearts Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hawaiian Mission Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 39-28 victory against Damien on the 17th.
