Football Recap: Southern Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

Southern unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were beaten by the Mountain Ridge Miners 34-0 on Saturday. The Rams have struggled against the Miners recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Carter Clites was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 270 yards and three TDs while completing 73.1% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Those 270 passing yards gave him a new career-high.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Hancock at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mountain Ridge, they will head out to take on Boonsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
