Basketball Game Preview: Deer Valley Wolverines vs. Pittsburg Pirates

Deer Valley is 2-8 against Pittsburg since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Deer Valley Wolverines will venture away from home to face off against the Pittsburg Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Deer Valley is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 19th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They took a blow against Liberty, falling 67-30. The Wolverines were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-13.

Meanwhile, Pittsburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 72-35 loss at the hands of Heritage. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 634th, while the Patriots are ranked 287th).

Deer Valley will have to keep a close watch on Jurnee Cox and Yariah Asidanya, a pair of players who had a big impact on Pittsburg's prior game. Cox posted 14 points and five boards, while Asidanya put up nine points along with three steals and three blocks. That was a full 40% of Pittsburg's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Deer Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Pittsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.

Deer Valley was taken down by Pittsburg 56-25 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Thankfully for Deer Valley, Ali Tautolo (who went 8 for 18 en route to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and four blocks) won't be suiting up this time.
