Baseball Game Preview: Fairfield Prep Jesuits vs. North Haven Nighthawks

The Fairfield Prep Jesuits will square off against the North Haven Nighthawks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairfield Prep will be looking to extend their current 18-game winning streak.

Fairfield Prep's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Monday, when they got past Cheshire's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Jesuits blew past the Rams 11-4. The Jesuits might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by seven runs or more this season.

Anthony Pavano tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.

On the hitting side, Fairfield Prep got a massive performance out of Vinny Lombardo, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Lombardo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Ventrelle, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Fairfield Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, North Haven faced Waterford in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Nighthawks fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 4-2. The Nighthawks' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Fairfield Prep's victory bumped their record up to 21-1. As for North Haven, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.

Fairfield Prep came out on top in a nail-biter against North Haven in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 2-0. Do the Jesuits have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Nighthawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
