Basketball Recap: Poly Sets Scoring Season-High Against JW North

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Poly). They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat the JW North Huskies 73-41. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while the Huskies are ranked 1117th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Poly got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Juliet Zaragoza out in front who posted 15 points. The dominant performance gave Zaragoza a new career-high in points. Abby Folsom was another key player, putting up 15 points.

JW North's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maya Marmolejo, who had 14 points and six rebounds. Marmolejo is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Avery Aguilar, who scored nine points.

Poly's win bumped their record up to 12-13. As for JW North, their record is now 6-17.

Poly will welcome Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Heritage is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.4 points per game this season. As for JW North, they will head out on the road to face off against Canyon Springs at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Canyon Springs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something JW North surely won't give up without a fight.
