After flying high against Brandeis last Friday, Steele came back down to earth. The Knights lost 37-14 to the Westlake Chaparrals on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Chaparrals are ranked seventh).

Steele's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jonathan Hatton, who rushed for 111 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries, and Liam Jones, who rushed for 85 yards and one score on only 12 carries. Hatton's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards.

Westlake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rees Wise led the charge by throwing for 207 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 81.2% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. That's the most passing yards Wise has posted since back in November of 2024. Braden Riddell was Wise's top target, picking up 109 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Having lost for the first time this season, Steele fell to 3-1. As for Westlake, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Coming up, Steele will face off against Clemens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The match will give the Knights their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Westlake, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Akins at 7:30 p.m. on October 2.
