Baseball Recap: Kennesaw Mountain Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Kennesaw Mountain lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Rome, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs were the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over the Rome Wolves on Friday. Considering the Mustangs have won nine matches by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

George Lutz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Phelps, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Isander Poventud was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Phelps wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Kennesaw Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive contests.

Kennesaw Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Rome is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

Kennesaw Mountain will have a chance to go back-to-back against Rome: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:55 p.m. on Monday.
