Basketball Game Preview: Fillmore Flashes vs. Hueneme Vikings

The Fillmore Flashes will face off against the Hueneme Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fillmore will be strutting in after a victory while Hueneme will be coming in after a defeat.

Fillmore is coming into the game on the come-up as their season has now been buoyed by two straight wins. They managed a 36-32 victory over Carpinteria on Tuesday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fillmore to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lucy Murillo, who posted eight points in addition to nine rebounds and three blocks. Murillo has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacqui Ordonez, who had eight points and four blocks.

Meanwhile, Hueneme was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 22nd straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 79-13 defeat at the hands of Santa Paula. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1240th, while the Cardinals are ranked 491st).

Hueneme's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Fillmore, their win bumped their record up to 6-15.

Fillmore took their victory against Hueneme when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 28-8. Does Fillmore have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hueneme turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
