Baseball Recap: Grovetown Falls Short of Hillgrove in the Playoffs

Grovetown and Hillgrove squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Grovetown had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 6-5. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ethan Strength was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grovetown saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Coby Eckert, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Grovetown's defeat dropped their record down to 13-17. As for Hillgrove, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 21-11 record this season.

Grovetown does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hillgrove, they will be playing at home against Parkview at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Hawks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
