Softball Recap: Bellevue West Comes Up Short

Bellevue West had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-3 to make it six. They fell just short of the Gretna Dragons by a score of 9-7. If the Thunderbirds were looking for revenge after losing 7-2 to the Dragons when the teams met back in October of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Aubrey Busch made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Veik, who earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

As for Gretna, the victory (which was their 41st in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games.

On Gretna's side, Brylee Heard and Kenadie Barton did most of the damage at the plate: Heard went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run, while Barton went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Bellevue West has already played their next match, a 10-2 defeat against Millard South on the 23rd. As for Gretna, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-0 victory against Blair on the 23rd.
