Football Recap: La Cueva Comes Up Short

La Cueva is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Pinnacle. The Bears had to suffer through a 44-0 loss at the hands of the Pioneers. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pioneers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Leading Pinnacle to victory were Drew Varsano and Gavin Hammond. Varsano threw for 246 yards and four touchdowns, while Hammond gained 120 total yards and two touchdowns. Those 246 passing yards gave Varsano a new career-high.

La Cueva's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Cueva will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sandia at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Pinnacle, they will host Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
