Softball Game Preview: Monett Cubs vs. Seneca Indians

Monett has gone 8-2 against Seneca recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cubs will head out on the road to square off against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Monett has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while Seneca will come in with three straight wins.

Monett fell victim to McDonald County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 7-0 to the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cubs have suffered since September 19th.

Kilee Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seneca). Everything went their way against Nevada on Tuesday as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Indians with their most commanding win of the season.

Kordy Hancock was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Ava Berrey also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Seneca picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 5-8. As for Monett, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Monett has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Seneca struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Monett's way against Seneca in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Monett made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cubs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
