Baseball Game Preview: Newman Greenies vs. St. Martin's Episcopal Saints

The Newman Greenies are taking a road trip to challenge the St. Martin's Episcopal Saints at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Newman's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four matchups, but Saturday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newman took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Archbishop Hannan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Newman had just enough and edged out Archbishop Hannan 2-1 on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Greenies as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, St. Martin's Episcopal entered their tilt with Willow on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Lions by a score of 5-2. Five seems to be a good number for the Saints as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

St. Martin's Episcopal's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Newman, their win bumped their record up to 10-11.

Newman came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Martin's Episcopal when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newman since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
