Softball Recap: Ladue Horton Watkins Takes a Loss

After flying high against Hazelwood Central on Thursday, Ladue Horton Watkins came back down to earth. The Rams came up short against the Hazelwood West Wildcats on Tuesday, falling 7-0. The shutout was out of character for the Rams seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in September.

Caroline Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Ladue Horton Watkins saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colette Brennan, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Brennan has hit this season.

Ladue Horton Watkins' loss dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Hazelwood West, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.

Ladue Horton Watkins does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hazelwood West, they will challenge Howell Central at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3.5, the Spartans 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
