Softball Recap: Wayne Has No Trouble Against Ponca

Wayne had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Ponca on Tuesday. The Blue Devils were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Indians. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won four in a row.

Mackenzie Nissen made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wayne got a big performance out of Nyla Bolles, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Bolles has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Courtney Roeber, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Wayne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ponca only posted an OBP of .400.

Wayne's win bumped their record up to 15-8. As for Ponca, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-12.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Wayne will square off against rival NEN at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Ponca is set to challenge their familiar foe Logan View/Scribner-Snyder at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
