5. Jeff George, Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.)The first Gatorade National Player of the Year, George was one of the top recruits in the country after throwing for 8,126 yards at Warren Central. He bounced around in college, however, starting at Purdue and playing two years at Illinois. He did not finish among the top 10 in the Heisman voting, but he was drafted No. 1 by the Indianapolis Colts. George went on to play 11 seasons with five teams in the NFL.
