Soccer Game Preview: Lancaster vs. Athens

The Lancaster Golden Gales will venture away from home to take on the Athens Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Lancaster made easy work of Newark and carried off a 7-1 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Lancaster's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio soccer rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Newark are ranked 484th).

Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Athens and Bloom-Carroll finished up their matchup with a 1-1 draw. The result kept Athens happy, as they haven't lost a game since September 18th.

Athens' draw gives them a new season record of 8-4-4. As for Lancaster, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6-2.

Lancaster couldn't quite get it done against Athens in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Golden Gales avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
