Football Recap: Lovejoy Skates Past Liberty with Ease

Lovejoy's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Liberty Redhawks 63-19. Given the Leopards' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Redhawks are ranked 814th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lovejoy had a senior duo take command as Zach Jones gained 132 total yards and four touchdowns and Jacob Janecek rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. Janecek's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Travis Shegog was in the mix as well, providing Lovejoy with two scores.

Lovejoy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 320 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Haroon Zaki and Matthew McClain certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Zaki rushed for 16 yards and one TD, while McClain picked up 25 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Lovejoy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Liberty, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Lovejoy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 45-14 loss against Anna on the 19th. As for Liberty, they have also already played their next match, a 78-7 defeat against Melissa on the 19th.
