Baseball Recap: Sumter County Comes Up Short

If Sumter County was feeling good fresh off their 14-4 takedown of Westover on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers came up short against the Monroe Golden Tornadoes on Monday, falling 11-5. The Panthers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Golden Tornadoes from their previous meeting back in February of 2025.

Terkavian Rush was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged four or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Avery, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Sumter County's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Monroe, the win also got them back to even at 2-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Golden Tornadoes beat Sumter County by a score of 11-5 later that day.
